Last week, i tried to use video on Skype under Linux Kubuntu 9.10, and it wasn’t really easy to succeed, that’s why i’m going to explain my experience.
First, i downloaded and installed : http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/linux/
After launching the soft, i began calling my friend but i could see him, but he couldn’t see me. Looking at the menu Options -> Video, i couldn’t see myself on the screen.
I googled a little, and i found a solution : launching skype with this little script :
#!/bin/sh
export LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype"
/usr/bin/skype
After this, my friend could see me, but he couldn’t listen to me. The solution was to launch kmix to setup system sound.
The microphone volume was set to 0 !
After that, everything was OK.
Update
